The Cleveland Job Corps Building Construction Technology Program is a six-to-twelve-month course that aims to prepare students to work as a pre-apprentice in the facility maintenance industry. Building Construction Technology is sponsored by the Home Builders Institute.
Building Construction Technology Instructor Michael Yager has 15 years of teaching experience with the Cleveland Job Corps Center and over 30 years of professional experience in the construction trade.
The course requires in-class lectures, hands-on training, and an externship via work-based learning. Throughout the training, students will learn drywall, painting, flooring, roofing, carpentry, heating ventilation, and air conditioner (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, solar, snow removal, and landscaping. Different instructional strategies are offered to best fit the students learning styles.
Certifications include: Home Building Institute Pre-Apprentice, Occupational Safety Health Administration OSHA 10, High-Performance Insulation Professional (HPIP), and Power Actuated Tools.
Once a student becomes proficient and completes the Training Achievement Record (TAR), Job Corps begins the process of looking for prospective employers to place students in high paying entry-level jobs.
