The Cleveland Job Corps Center received a “Legacy Community Partners Award” from Alpha Omega Chapter on January 15, 2017. Cleveland Job Corps Center Director, William Houston was invited to sit on the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and Alpha Omega Chapter Centennial/Founders’ Day Celebration dais as the chapter celebrated their 100 Year Anniversary.
The “Legacy Community Partners Award” recognizes organizations that have had an impact in assisting the Alpha Omega Chapter strive to improve the quality of life in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area; as well as help the Chapter’s mission of scholarship, service and sisterhood. The Cleveland Job Corps Center was one of six Legacy Community Partners who received an award for their contribution in the Chapter’s success of serving young adults.
Alpha Omega is the first Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; the oldest African American Sorority of college educated women. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated brought Job Corps to Cleveland in 1965, and successfully operated the Center until 1995. For many years, the Chapter mentored, tutored, provided workshops and college scholarships.
