When we last wrote about Jaccarri Webb in February, he was packing to further his education at the Advanced Plumbing (Roto-Rooter) Edison Job Corps Center in Edison, New Jersey. While he was excited about his new venture, Mr. Webb still missed his friends and the staff at the Cleveland Job Corps. But, he began to make new friends and developed a bond with his new Plumbing Instructor.
Residing just about an hour away from New York City, Mr. Webb was able to take advantage of some unique experiences. During the summer, he worked at the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour, and at the Belmont Stakes, an American Grade I Stakes Thoroughbred horse.
His training focused primarily on new commercial construction plumbing and ex-panded on installing gas lines, performed pro press pipe fitting, reading plumbing blueprints, and installing venting systems and stacks. Mr. Webb interned with Master Plumber, Carlos Mendoza in New Jersey before completing the Advanced Plumbing (Roto-Rooter) training. As a parting gift, his roommate took him to New York City for the weekend. He visited Times Square to take in the lights on a Friday, then rode the Staten Island Ferry the next morning to visit the Statue of Liberty and spent the rest of the weekend touring popular attractions, like Wall Street and the Empire State Building.
Upon returning home, Mr. Webb reached out to the Local 55 Plumbers and was hired at Neptune Plumb-ing. He currently works in the warehouse taking orders and performing site deliv-eries. After completing ninety days of employment with the company, he will be able to work in the field. “Take the program 100% serious. This is not the place to play games, because if you take the program seriously it will get you on the right track and take you places you never thought you would be able to go.” recommends Mr. Webb to Job Corps students.
