Cleveland Job Corps 2019 Workforce and Community Relations Council Appreciation Luncheon


On December 11, 2019, the Cleveland Job Corps Center hosted its annual Workforce and Community Relations Council Appreciation Luncheon. The annual event is held in appreciation of center partners, supporters, community residents, elected officials, vendors and employers that have supported the Cleveland Job Corps throughout the year.

The event commenced with a wonderful welcome from Cleveland Job Corps Center Director Vivian Morrow. She updated guests on the center’s highlights from 2019, accomplishments, implementation of the new manufacturing trade and new Outreach & Admission contract. “We are coming up on a new year of opportunities and ways to help our students in 2020 and we can’t do it alone,” explained Vivian. “We need your continued support in helping our students succeed in their career pathways.”

Cleveland Job Corps carpentry student Dakota Camp spoke with the guests about how the Cleveland Job Corps allowed her to learn an immeasurable amount of soft skills that gave her a much-needed edge. She also stated that now she feels empowered with a sense of purpose and power over her life.

Jalea Nelson is a Medical Administrative Assistant student at Cleveland Job Corps who spoke about her gratitude for the staff that helped her and all the friends she has made. She talked about the two trades she earned, Medical Administrative Assistant and Medical Billing and Coding. Now that she has both trades, Jalea has more opportunities and doors opening for her.

Later, Open Hand, Mt Saint Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center, Langston – Buckingham Companies, US Foods, Moonlight Specialties, Ecolab, and Bruder Inc. were all recognized for their outstanding support of the Cleveland Job Corps this year.
Councilman Michael Polensek stated that he is committed to partnering with the Cleveland Job Corps Center to increase OBS and provide vocational training to the Collinwood High School residence.
