New Director Takes Over Top Performing Clearfield Job Corps

Clearfield Job Corps Center Director Jessica Joiner(CLEARFIELD, Utah) – Clearfield Job Corps applauds former Center Director Gary Vesta’s leadership and celebrates the arrival of new Director, Jessica Joiner. The Management & Training Corporation (MTC)-operated facility is a federal residential job-training program funded by the US Department of Labor for young adults, ages 16 to 24.

Vesta departs his four-year stint at Clearfield coming off a year-end ranking of 12th out of the 122 Job Corps Centers nationwide. This is the top ranking for the Clearfield campus in its 46-year history. The Clearfield campus is the third largest Job Corps center in the country with a student capacity of 1120.

Ranking of the centers is based on the performance measures such as career technical training completions, high school/GED obtainment, reading and math level improvements, job and post secondary school placement, wages and long term success of retaining the placement status 6 and 12 months later.

Meanwhile, new Center Director Jessica Joiner arrives at the northern Utah center after holding the Deputy Director position at the largest center, Gary Job Corps. “I am excited to join the Clearfield center and look forward to getting involved in the community,” Joiner said. “Being in the top 10% year-end performance and being the third largest campus in the nation is amazing. It’s a credit to the students and staff as well as the strong support by our community partners.”

Jessica Joiner has worked in Job Corps for more than 15 years, holding positions of Recreation Specialist, Residential Living Manager, Outreach/Admissions & Career Transitions Director, Employability Director and Deputy Center Director at Sierra Nevada Job Corps, Inland Empire Job Corps, Tongue Point Job Corps and Gary Job Corps. At each position, Joiner was instrumental in helping guide performance improvements; currently, each of the centers listed above are in the top 25% with the exception of Gary Job Corps which has moved up 11 spots in the ranking since 2009 when Joiner joined the staff at Gary JC.

Jessica’s family, which includes three children under the age of 5 years and her husband, are looking forward to the outdoor activities and the welcoming communities Utah has to offer.
