Congressman Rob BishopCongressman Rob Bishop R–Utah, long time supporter of Job Corps and member of the National Friends of Job Corp Caucus in Washington D.C., gave commencement speeches at both Weber Basin and Clearfield Job Corps Centers to approximately 148 graduates, their family and friends.

On Tuesday August 30th 125 Job Corps centers around the nation held graduation ceremonies in support of National Job Corps Commencement Day. In a single day, thousands of Job Corps youth graduated from the program into the work force, to higher education or to enlist in the military.

“Clearfield is doing phenomenally well at number 19 out of 125 centers in the nation
,” said Scott Marquardt, MTC’s President and CEO as he introduced Congressman Bishop.

The Congressman has been a regular visitor at the Clearfield Job Corps Center where he has talked to future graduates about the importance of voting, effective leadership and goal setting. This is no surprise given Representative Bishop’s 28-year teaching background.

“It’s a great time for you and your families, and I’m just honored to be a part of that.”, “I’m proud of what you’ve done” said Bishop during his commencement speech to the Clearfield Job Corps graduates, staff, families, friends and several local and state government officials who also attended the ceremony.

National Job Corps Commencement Day was held the same day President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Economic Opportunity Act in 1964, creating Job Corps. National Job Corps Commencement Day showcased Job Corps’ widespread bi-partisan and community support on a local, regional and national level.
