Clearfield students help train local emergency crews.

Emergency crews from 10 Davis County police, ambulance and fire agencies descended on Clearfield Job Corps to carry out disaster readiness exercises for preparation of the upcoming air show at Hill Air Force Base.

Over 100 students were made up as victims for a mock disaster involving a mid-air collision during a performance by the Thunderbirds that would have one F-16 crashing at Hill and one destroying the Administration Building on the Job Corps campus, Wednesday, March 21.

This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to work with paramedics, officers and firefighters from Davis County Sheriff’s office, Syracuse City, Sunset City, Layton City, Kaysville City, North Davis Fire District, South Davis Metro Fire and Farmington City, also Life Flight and Homeland Security.

Student Leadership CEO, Ariel Smith, whose make belief injuries put her in critical condition, was taken by Life Flight crews to the local hospital. “It was a great experience, a very smooth ride, but all the other students were jealous because they wanted the helicopter ride” Ariel smiled.

Other students were transported by ambulance and those not listed in serious condition were transported by Utah Transit Authority who sent busses to assist with the mass exodus to local hospitals.

The exercise was followed up with a brief-out and food in the gym for all students, staff and emergency personnel involved in the event.
