On May 16th 2014, approximately 160 Clearfield Job Corps students represented our center on location at Hill Air Force Base during a mock disaster exercise. They woke up before sunrise (around 4:00 am) to help the Base ensure it is ready in case of emergency. Our students were made up to look like victims and helped Base and municipal emergency responders test their resources and abilities against a plane crash at an air show. They were diagnosed by responders and transported to area hospitals. Two of them even got the rides of their lifetimes in the MediVac helicopters. From mild burns to head wounds and broken legs to fatal injuries, our students pulled off some Oscar-worthy performances!
The Base staff and emergency responders were extremely happy with our students; each of them represented our center well. Student Michael Miller from Welding even got interviewed on FOX 13 and rocked his interview. (LINK TO FOX13 SPOT)
CJCC would like to especially thank CPP, CTT, UAW, Transitions and Academics and in particular, staff members Dwaine Bair, Jackie Humphrys, Mike Mireles, Greg Whinham, Greg Price, David Howell, Elizabeth Scholes, Tom Cannon, Lisa Spencer, Fred Hezler, Don Jamison and John Van Beekum. These staff woke up incredibly early to drive, chaperone and cheer on our students during this activity. Thank you also to Residential for helping the students wake up on time and the cafeteria staff for making sure students left with full stomachs and returned to a good meal after a very long day.
