JOB CORPS Tuesday, March 26, 2019 LEP hosted a Women’s Conference for our March Diversity event. All female students, and students who identify as female, were invited to attend. Participants were asked to meet at the Cafeteria, where Food Services prepared a wonderful lunch featuring pizza and a dessert bar. They also provided special seating and décor to make our young ladies feel welcome and appreciated.
After lunch, keynote speaker Petra Vigil spoke about how she embraced her passion for baking and her culture to start her own successful business, and how she continues to overcome the challenges that arise in doing so. After enjoying Ms. Vigil’s presentation, students were allowed a short break, then brought to the gyms for a series of communication and understanding exercises, self-confidence talks, a yoga class, presentations from Davis Tech College beauty instructors and students, and a self-defense course.
Staff and students alike enjoyed the opportunity to encourage the young women on center to embrace their inner “Glamazons” and reach their full potential, not only in their pursuit of education, but in all they do.
