Student Success Story: Karece T, Clearfield Job Corps
Karece T. came to Clearfield Job Corps in January of 2008 from San Bernardino, California.
He was looking to do something different and better with his life when some friends at Inland Empire Job Corps told him about the Job Corps program.
Karece joined Clearfield’s Facilities Maintenance program where he began to learn not only the trade but essential leadership skills that would help him excel in everyday life.
While working with the facilities staff and trade instructors, Karece held leadership positions as President of his dorm, President of the Black American support group, President of Diversity support and Student Leadership CEO.
Upon completion of his technical training Karece took his new found leadership skills and knowledge to the Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos, Texas and joined the Advanced Residential Advisor program in March of 2009.
While in Texas Karece continued to develop his skills and was soon appointed the Senior RA of one of Gary Job Corps Work Based Learning dorms.
Graduating from Gary Job Corps in December of 2009 Karece returned to Clearfield Job Corps in January of 2010 to lend his experiences and guidance to the student body, only this time as a staff member, a Residential Advisor for one of Clearfield’s 16 Dorms.
Karece hopes to use his knowledge and past experiences as a student to benefit both the current student body and the staff that were his mentors and now his peers, hoping to impact current campus students, like he was, to succeed in life.
The biggest lesson I learned while in Job Corps, Karece explains “Life is what you make of it. What you want only comes to you when you put the maximum possible into it. Life has a lot of distractions but it’s your goals that matter most.”
Karece plans on continuing his education by working towards a degree in social science while continuing to work at Clearfield Job Corps. He goes on to say “The biggest strides I took in life came when I took on extra responsibilities and participated in the extra curricular activities offered on campus, they really helped me prepare for a career.”
