Volunteer WV speaks of the AmeriCorps Program to Charleston Job Corps Career Transition Readiness Students.
Dana Bryant of Volunteer WV, was a guest speaker at the Charleston Job Corps Center on September 18, to bring awareness of the opportunity afforded by AmeriCorps.
Dana a former AmeriCorps Vista participant, shared her stories and gave examples of aid and assistance endeavors of which you may encounter during her presentation. She also gave an overview of the living allowance/stipend and travel opportunities afforded through the AmeriCorps program. Of the twelve (12) students who are currently in the Career Transition Readiness phase of the Job Corps training program, at least three students showed interest in applying for the program.
Dana indicated her decision to join AmeriCorps was due to her not having a defined career path. She also stated that as a participant in the AmeriCorps Vista program, she was able to find her true passion in helping others which led to her current employment.
The AmeriCorps Vista program allows its members to serve as catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to meet the nation’s most pressing challenges and advance local solutions.
