National Haiku Poetry Day

National Haiku Poetry Day

Wed. April 17 was National Haiku Poetry Day. With this in mind, Ms. Jordan, CTT Literacy Teacher for Charleston Job Corps, decided to give the students a quick overview of the structure and art of Haiku and created a little contest for them. The contest was open to all students.
While this was an opportunity for self-expression it was also a nice reminder to literacy students on how to use vocabulary and how syllables in words aid in creating that self-expression.
Pictured are the winners of the contest from back row: Amir Abdul-Rahman, left to right:  Margaret Kamara and Fredis Sorto.
