Graduate of the Month: Carissa Holmes
Charleston Job Corps graduate Carissa Holmes is thriving as an automated logistics specialist with the United States Army Reserve, thanks to the training she received through the Job Corps program.
“Job Corps has definitely prepared me for the military,” Holmes said. “It helped me with time management, professionalism and how to adapt without being around your family.”
Thanks to Job Corps, “my life has changed tremendously in a very positive way,” she said. “I feel that I am independent and very successful now and I have great knowledge and skills.”
Holmes completed the dental assistant career technical training program at Charleston Job Corps in 2017, earning certifications for OSHA, HIPPA, CPR and Radiology.
She also was involved in the center’s Youth2Youth organization, serving as a Y2Y student ambassador to promote peace on center and take a stand against bullying. Additionally, Holmes served in the SGA and was a peer counselor.
In preparation for her position as an automated logistic specialist in the Army Reserve, Holmes studied logistics at the Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, VA.
“Job Corps has definitely impacted my life, Holmes said. “It gave birth to new things in me that I didn’t know were there. I am forever grateful to Job Corps because it molded me into the person I am today.”
