CJCC December Student Success-December 10, 2014

Azel Walls is 22 years old from Charleston, WV. He arrived at the Charleston Job Corps Center on November 11, 2013. Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) is operated by Horizons Youth Services for the U.S. Dept. of Labor. Azel was a graduate of Mountaineer Challenge Academy before entering the program with his GED. He completed the carpentry trade under the leadership of Tommy Fitzwater, Carpentry Instructor. He has received Green Awareness, OSHA, and Scaffolding certification which increases his employment opportunities.

Work Based Learning is a fundamental component to student success at the Charleston Job Corps Center. Students receive hands on training in their industry environment with our various partners and organizations. Azel completed work based learning at Southmoor Hills Apts., South Charleston, WV where he worked four weeks in general carpentry and a variety of construction duties.

Azel has been accepted to WV State University and will begin January 2015 majoring in engineering. His words of wisdom to current and future Job Corps students “focus on your education and never give up.”
