Charleston Job Corps Hosts’ 1st Annual Pumpkin Drop

Charleston Job Corps held its first annual Pumpkin Drop on Thursday, October 30, 2021, as a part of the center’s Halloween festivities.
The Pumpkin Drop was held behind the Career and Technical Training building at which an eager crowd assembled to partake in the excitement.
All featured pumpkins were dropped from a scaffold at 25 feet. Trade students were atop to ensure the pumpkins were dropped according to plan.
The teams were composed of trade students from Office Administration, Network Cable, Carpentry, Painting, Facilities Maintenance, HVAC, Medical Office Support, instructors, and staff.

Each trade was tasked with:
● designing an apparatus or housing that protects their pumpkin from the fall
● designing a container that receives the pumpkin undamaged
● Planning how to accurately drop a pumpkin

The winners of the pumpkin drop were Mr. Stevens, Mrs. Kegley, and their students. Their pumpkin was enclosed in a hamper and surrounded by water balloons. The pumpkin was able to withstand the fall without any damage to its exterior.
