Charleston Job Corps Holds First Annual Father’s Day Celebration

The Charleston Job Corps Center held its first annual Father’s Day Celebration on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in the Center Director’s Conference Room. Tia Welch, Business Community Liaison hosted the event for student male father’s to receive encouragement, instruction and wisdom on fatherhood. Speaker for this event was Willie Brown, Center Director who said, “Being a young father is a monumental task. Times are different now, with a lot more peer pressure and situations that can cause you serious problems.” A poem “What is a Dad?” was read followed by words of wisdom from Raymond Blust, Finance & Administration Director and Kurt Romans, Finance & Accounting Manager. Mr. Brown reminded the students, “There is no perfect father. You will make mistakes, but let the mistakes be out of love and compassion, trying to do what is right and taking care of your children.” Student attending include Edwardo Cruz Delgado, Torell Ebron, Jon Long, Dougls Smith and Antonio Elder. Each student father received a tie in honor of Father’s Day on Sunday, June 15, 2014.
