Charleston Job Corps held a Drug and Alcohol Awareness presentation on Wednesday April 17.

Chad Napier, the prevention coordinator of Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (AHIDTA) for West Virginia and Virginia gave a presentation to the student body of the Charleston Job Corps.  The focus of the presentation was to bring awareness and prevention in schools throughout West Virginia and to also alert students of the effects of drugs and alcohol abuse.
He showed a video of physical signs of individuals whom use and advised of the importance of knowing that some drugs separate mind from body and should be handled very carefully.
Napier plans to assist the center in obtaining Narcan for center use.  Narcan is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids.  It can very quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed.  He advised the need and the importance in the event of an overdose.  .  He stated that in the last 5-10 years the use of Heroin and Methamphetamine are the highest quantities of confiscation in this area.
Napier returned to the center as a presenter for the staff during the all staff training day on April 26.  To further educate the staff of signs and the benefits of early detection.  Retired from the Charleston Police Department in October, 2015 with 20 years of service, Napier spent the majority of his career with the Metro Drug Unit conducting or supervising drug investigations.  He is one of the nation’s experts on illegal drugs and has worked on hundreds of drug related arrests and drug violations.  Over the past several years, Napier has primarily spent his time presenting drug awareness and prevention presentations in schools throughout West Virginia and as a guest speaker throughout the nation.
