CJCC June Student Success, Cheyenne Taylor

Cheyenne Taylor-20 years old is from Richmond, VA. She arrived at the Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) on October 19, 2015 with her High School Diploma from T.C. Williams High School, Alexandria VA. She enrolled in the career technical trade of Certified Nursing Assistant and completed with her state certification. Taylor continued to pursue her training at CJCC by taking a second trade in Office Administration receiving an additional certification to increase her employability.

Students at CJCC receive training in employability skills and career success standards to increase their marketability in the workforce. All students have the opportunity to participate in community service and the Work Based Learning (WBL) program. Taylor performed her WBL assignment at the Alzheimer’s Association, WV Chapter. Her duties included answering telephones, filing, data entry, preparing outgoing mail and attending workshops on the disease. She was recognized in the WBL student spotlight by Jillian Valentine, WBL Coordinator.

A leader in her own right, Taylor served as Public Relations officer for the Student Government Association (SGA) and dorm leadership on Parks Dormitory. Taylor learned valuable skills serving on center leadership such as public speaking, determination, team work and perseverance. She will miss her fellow Job Corps leaders and students, but feels confident they will rise to the occasion and walk in her footsteps of success.

Taylor has been accepted into the Transportation Communications Union (TCU), the centers advanced training program at the Potomac Job Corps Center, Washington DC. Her future plans include becoming a flight attendant and working for major airline. Taylor chose her words of wisdom carefully, because it was “words of wisdom” from other students that encouraged her to attend Job Corps. Therefore, her Words of Wisdom to current and future Job Corps students is taken from Charlie Chaplin, “Nothing is permanent in this world, not even your situation or yesterday’s problems.” Taylor encourages students to continue to reach their goals, the sky is the
