The Charleston Job Corps Center operated by Horizons Youth Services received congressional support from U.S. Congressman Alex Mooney, U.S. Congressman David McKinley and U.S. Congressman Evan Jenkins regarding the Dear Colleague Job Corps Slot Reduction letter on the house side of Congress.
The Dear Colleague Letter was not a funding request. The Job Corps community did not want slots to be reduced, staff laid off, or the program to become inefficient. Job Corps has committed and dedicated staff who diligently work to help young people change their lives and better their future every day. In addition, they live, work and spend money in the local economy as tax paying citizens.
Youth 16-24 are getting academic and career technical training in high-demand industries. Charleston Job Corps Center provides career technical training in Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Office Support, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Office Administration, Network Cabling, Facilities Maintenance, Painting, Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) and Carpentry.
As a result of Business Community Liaison’s and center staff working with their congressional offices and representatives the request to reduce OBS (On-Board Strength) at center’s has been rescinded.
