Charleston Job Corp Black History Month Door ContestThe month of February has been declared Black History Month in order to pay tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society.In observance of Black History Month, Charleston Job Corps Center holds a door decorating contest in the Career Planning and Placement, Career Technical Training and the Academic classrooms beginning on Feb 18. Students were charged to collaborate and create a door decoration with a Black History Theme. Each were judged by the Directing Staff on Friday, Feb 22. Facility Maintenance, the winning class, created a ‘Time Capsule’ at the entrance to the classroom, which unfolded to allow for a lighted entrance. The class used many of their trade skills learned in the project. They installed electrical circuits for lighting, hinges, built walls, dry walls and painting.
