Charleston Job Corps Student Success

Kaylie Nichols, a Charleston Job Corps student, came to the program with aspirations of becoming an obstetrician.

At the age of thirteen, Kaylie realized the traditional educational forum in her hometown was ineffective. She discovered that the lack of teacher and peer interaction and lack of classroom materials would not provide the education required to achieve her life goals. Simply stated, as a result of this realization, she lost interest and began getting into trouble.

Kaylie learned of the Job Corps program from her counselor, but she couldn’t join until she was sixteen. Just after turning 16, Kaylie joined Charleston Job Corps on August 24, 2021.

Upon entrance into the Penn Foster Diploma program and Office Administration trade, Kaylie earned her high school diploma, obtained her driver’s license, and has already completed one of three-course tests in only 2 months.

Kaylie believes the instructors at Charleston Job Corps have had a positive influence on her by encouraging her to excel in her training, namely Mr. Lawson, Ms. Jordan, and Mr. Brown “These instructors have been there to cheer me on while holding me accountable to achieving my dreams,” she says.
Charleston Job Corps is pleased to share student success stories and is proud of our students’ many accomplishments.
