Cascades’ Earth Day / Global Youth Service Overview

On April 16th 2011 ten (10) Cascades students and one staff member worked with other volunteers from the Skagit Community Action Agency to assist with five yard work projects for low income elderly and disabled clients.
Skagit Community Action Agency is one of approximately 1,000 Community Action Agencies across the United States providing services and advocates for the needs of those experiencing poverty, and has been a partner of Cascades Job Corps for many years.
The students mowed lawns, raked, weeded, cleared brush, and provided overall yard clean up.
For Earth Day we had more than 60 of our students participate in a tree planting activity on the center grounds. Each center vocation was assigned a different variety of tree, and the students did the actual planting. We now have 11 new trees on campus that are sure to grow very tall and proud, and can be enjoyed by students, staff, and visitors for many years to come.
