Carville Job Corps Center hosted a Disability Awareness Assembly for the center staff and student employees in Observance of Disability Awareness Month; Mr. Anthony Clifton was guest speaker for the event. Mr. Clifton shared his life challenges, educational training, and career choices he had to make due to his diagnoses of a congenital eye disease which caused his sight to deteriorate as he became older. He was advised by doctors at age 17, that he would be completely blind within the next 20 years. Even after learning of his DIAGNOSIS, and as DEVASTATING for him and his family, he did not let that stop him from accomplishing his goals in life. He worked 34.1 years as a social worker with the Department of Corrections (Juvenile Division). He encouraged our students that life is full of Challenges they are Durable and Never Give up on your Dreams. Mr Clifton has been Carville’s Center Mental Health Consultant’s mentor since 1991.
