Perkins Team Wins Regional Academic Olympics

The Academic Olympics team from Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center took top honors in the Region II Job Corps Academic and Career Skills Competition Oct. 8, the second year in a row that the Perkins team won the championship.

Contest questions were ‘short answer’ and covered the subject areas of language arts, social studies, science, spelling and mathematics. Students were assigned to specific subjects and competed against other centers that won in their district competitions. The Perkins team went up against Rod Rock, Old Dominion, Shriver, Potomac and Keystone Job Corps centers to defend its regional champion title. Each member of the winning Perkins team received a Gateway laptop computer, donated by Adams & Associates Inc.

The Carl D. Perkins Academic Team includes Team Caption Dustin Meadows, math; Nina Stone, language arts; Jacob Gardner, social studies; Quisto Ortiz, science; Matthew Jacobson, spelling and alternate David Guest, current events.

Congratulations to our outstanding Academic Olympics team!
