Perkins Students honor fallen officers

Carl D. Perkins Job Corps students continue to make us proud by giving back to the community. On behalf of the staff, we want to send a big thank you to the Advanced Training Security students. They worked at the Mountain Arts Center and with the city of Prestonsburg on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 through Friday, July 8, 2022. Sadly, our local community was devastated by the recent death of 3 police officers and a K9 unit who were killed in the line of duty. The students proudly stood alongside police officers and law enforcement officials from several states as these heroes were laid to rest. Our AT students worked outside every day in rain and heat directly assisting the supportingheros.org foundation based in Louisville, KY. According to Major Erin Spyrks, EMS Education Coordinator with the Department of Emergency Services, “everyone acted in a professional manner and did an amazing job; we really appreciate their help.” The students assisted with event security and parking for the funerals. The following students from the Advanced Security program did an excellent job representing our center and deserve recognition for their community service:

  • Matthew Pettit
  • Quasonn Jean Baptiste
  • Ronald Auna
  • Kiarra Jones McCracken
  • Makayla Hamilton
  • Carl Marshall
  • Hector Cerecer
  • Ian Gutierrez
  • Rebbeca Gonzalez
