As the groundhog got ready to look for his shadow, Carl D Perkins joined thousands of employers and students around the country who took part in Groundhog Job Shadow Day, during the week of February 2, 2014.
Vocational trade students from the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center, in association with local professionals and organizations, were provided a wide variety of real and actual job related opportunities with the vocational trade offerings at the center. Business Community Liaison Jimmie Slone and vocational trade instructors from the center provided students with a wealth of exposure and some hands-on experiences in local businesses and at community facilities. “I wanted the students to be overwhelmed with professional possibilities”, remarked Miss Slone as she recapped the Job Shadowing week’s events and efforts by the vocational trade instructors. This year’s Job Shadowing events and activities included: Construction Vocational Students Job Shadow Elliott’s Contracting Company, Culinary Vocational Students Job Shadow the food services department at the University of Pikeville (UPIKE), Security Vocational Students Job Shadow at Floyd County Courthouse, Office Administration Vocational Students visit the Big Sandy Technical and Community College,
