During the month of May, the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps carpentry students have put their skills to use, helping the Appalachian Hospice team give the memorial garden located in Paintsville, KY a much needed makeover. The students have worked unloading mulch, planting flowers, and weeding the garden. Mr. Brandon Conley, carpentry instructor along with his students also built a new bench and arch for the garden.”
The memorial garden was started to provide a space for the patient’s families that Appalachian Hospice worked with. The first ceremony was held for loved ones last spring, to plant a flower in memory of those they had lost. The garden was such a huge success that a winter ceremony was held to plant a 12 ft. evergreen and ornaments were hung in memory of family members. “This is what led to the much needed expansion and makeover” stated Charly Sholty.
Shotly went on to say in a letter sent to the Perkins center “We are so appreciative of the assistance the Job Corp offers, I truly don’t know what we would do without them. Every encounter with those kids has been a blessing”.
With sincere thanks,
