Landscaping project underway for students at Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center

Carl D. Perkins Job Corps students Joshua Hoopingarner, Ryan Briggs and Kenneth Higginbotham worked Thursday, August 4, landscaping the exterior of the Floyd County Annex building, which houses the county’s drug court system headquarters, the 911 center and the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce offices.

Landscaping is only the first of many steps for these and other students who, along with their instructors and assisting staff, plan to renovate the interior offices for the Floyd County Chamber throughout the next several weeks.

This project, like so many others undertaken by Perkins students in the past, will be a great benefit to the county, said Floyd County Judge-Executive R.D. “Doc” Marshall.

“We’ve worked with Job Corps on a number of occasions during my tenure as judge-executive and I can say the students have always been exceptional at their task and professional in the way they handled themselves,” Marshall said.

With fellow students working on center putting the finishing touches on a Hotel and Lodging project that will afford those in that trade a perfect replica of a lobby, front desk and guest room, among other aspects of hotels and motels, those working at the annex can see their efforts shaping up for their annual off-center project.
