Monday May 15th, the culinary class of Chef Terry Marrs set out to talk to freshman class at Allen Central high school about the Culinary Field and what the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center offers. Chef Terry mars and culinary students David Oswalt, talked with the students about what the program has to offer, certifications, skills learned, job outlook. Chef Marrs also discussed the art of cooking, the enjoyment you get, when you cook for someone and they love what you did.
David discussed what he has learned in class, and about the opportunities of on the job training, during his Work Base Learning (WBL) at the Jenny Wiley State Park and University of Pikeville. He explained to the students how beneficial having these experiences to put on your resume, when it’s time to enter the world of work.
Ms. Jimmie Slone, Business Community Liaison (BCL) ended the presentation discussing nutrition and wellbeing with the students. Discussing Body Mass Index (BMI) portion size, fats, and carbs and if you don’t take care of yourself by eating healthy and exercising you will not function to your highest potential in school or on the job.
