Perkins students visit Louisa Head Start Class to encourage reading
“Oh the places you will go” read Carl D. Perkins Job Corps student Jabori Lattimore to a group of preschoolers from the Louisa Head Start Class during Read Across America Day March 2. Students from the Perkins Job Corps visited the Head Start Class to share their love of reading with the youngsters.
The annual observance, organized by the National Education Association, is recognized mainly in schools and libraries. The event also honors the beloved author and illustrator Theodore Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. This year, students from Carl D. Perkins Job Corps joined Job Corps students across the country to share their love of reading with others and encourage youngsters to read.
“The sun did not shine, It was too wet to play, So we sat in the house, All that cold, cold, wet day,” read Perkins student Diana Hamilton as she shared the popular book “Cat In the Hat” to students.
Perkins Job Corps students also led follow-up craft activities with the youngsters after the stories, including making Dr. Seuss hats for all. Also participating in the Read Across America event was Perkins Job Corps student Amber Advent.
Perkins Job Corps students will visit different schools each month to read to students and encourage them to become avid readers.
