Carl D. Perkins Students assist with Ky Special Olympics, the event that changes lives and brings people together!

On Saturday 11/2/13, 22 students and 4 staff from the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps center started their Saturday off in a different way. Students and Staff, up early and on their way to the Pen Zone bowling alley, in Prestonsburg, KY for the Ky Special Olympics Bowling tournament.

Students assisted the Olympians in each lane, by keeping score, keeping track of rotations, and most important cheering them on to victory. This opportunity for students to be a part of this event, not only helps the Special Olympics organization, it instills a feeling of belonging, and giving back to others to young people that cannot be taught in the classroom. Students and staff, always come away from this event, feeling humbled.

This is the 6th year that the Perkins center has been privileged to be a part of this event. The students and staff are already gearing up for the spring event in April, 2014.

Event Manager Ms. Cindy Hackworth stated “That Perkins students have done it again this year and outstanding job”!
