Carl D. Perkins Culinary, Facilities Maintenance and Security & Protective Services (SPS) students assisted the National Business College on Thursday July 28th, with their annual Summer Healthy Fun Fair event at the college. Perkins Carpentry Class did the Pre- event work with roping off parking spots and setting up tables and chairs for the event. Culinary students took charge of the grill, with grilling over 500 hot dogs for the attendees at the fair. While SPS students directed traffic and took care of parking.
The event offers free medical services to families in Eastern Ky. The following free screening were offered for the event; vision, cholesterol, glucose and Blood Pressure. Weight management classes, Diabetic supplies and education, smoking cessation classes were also held at the event. These were just some of the many free services offered.
There were many vendors set up around the college informing the public about services they offered, while outside inflatables, games, fire trucks, fire simulators were out for the youngsters to enjoy. They even got to see a med flight helicopter land for a mock tornado scene airlift.
Tammy Riley Director at the College stated “The college could not put on this event without the assistance of our students, and they do an outstanding job at each event”.
This is just one of many community events that the Carl D. Perkins students assist with throughout the year. Giving back through community service is a valuable opportunity for the students.
