Carl D. Perkins Student lands job in Mayors office during WBL internship

Charity Slone lands job at the Mayor’s office during her Work Based Learning Internship. Charity Slone, 20 year old Office Admin student from Ermine, KY began working at City Hall in Prestonsburg, KY on November 9, 2015. Students earn Work Based learning hours several different ways, including internship, community service projects, and campus projects. This is one reason that the Job Corps program I more distinctive than other training programs is its focus on providing students with hands-on experience aligned with industry standards. This approach is best seen through Job Corps work based learning program that can lead to full or part time employment as it did in Charity’s case. Charity is a leader in the office administration class and she also facilitates the new community computer class held each Thursday evening at the center. Charity is able to continue learning and working in her chosen trade, while also  earning  money that will assist her going to college in the Spring.
