Five students from the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center were recognized for their artistic and literary talents during the centers Dec. 14 business assembly.That’s when they found out they had placed in the Floyd County Conservation Essay and Art Contest.
Tony Grubb, director of the Floyd county Conservation District, presented certificates to the students. The contest’s theme focused on an increased commitment for and renewed effort toward protecting Kentucky’s local streams, forest, soils and open spaces for the future while also protecting the habitats of Kentucky’s wildlife.
Student Jimmy Milan won 1st place in the essay portion of the contest, while Charity Slone placed 2nd. nelson Roman came in 1st in the art contest for Kentucky wildlife, Jawuan Richards placed 2nd, and Joanna Martinez-Helton came in 3rd. Students will also be recognized in the Spring Conservation Banquet.
