Thursday October Carl D. Perkins Security & Protective Services students set out on a rainy evening to work the annual “Light the Night Walk” held by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Students knew the plan before arriving, to direct traffic while the event was taking place, and assisting patrons if needed. However the students soon found themselves doing anything but security as they were called upon to help in other areas, where the event was shorthanded. Some students manned the Helium Balloon station preparing the balloons for the walk, some assisted monitoring the inflatables where the youngsters played for most of the evening, while others carried and set up tables for the vendors.
The event funds treatments that are saving the lives of patients today. LLS is accelerating cures by providing patient support services cures by providing patient support services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments and the most promising cancer research anywhere. And it’s all happening now, Not someday, today. This is the 3rd year that the Perkins students and staff have assisted with this event. Students also stayed after the event to assist with taking down tents, stacking tables and chairs. Event Chair Scrappy Barnes stated that ” they could not have done the event without the help of the Perkins Job Corps students”.
