Wednesday August 12, the Carl D. Perkins students and staff kicked off the National campaign” Youth2Youth Partners 4 Peace campaign”.   

Student leaders and staff had kicked off the day with Bullying What is it and How do we stop it? presentation from US Army Sgt. Shannon Beatty. Stg. Beatty discussed with student the different types of bullying. That bullying could be in the forms of Physical, Verbal and cyber bullying. Sgt. Beatty went on to discuss the cyber bullying due to the popularity of social media that this is more common with youth than in the past. The presentation also went to talk about the student leaders can take steps to stop bullying, and  how to report incidents. the last portion of  the presentation was an  open discussion session of How do we stop bullying? Students and staff talked about different solutions and several students agreed that they will be the voice for victims that will not report incidents if they see this happening.  

Students were led by Stg. Beatty in an anti-bullying pledge and all students agreed to the following: 

1. Demonstrating Leadership qualities by not participating in bullying activities. 

 2. Showing respect to all my peers regardless of their race, religion, or popularity. 

 3. Not engaging in verbal, physical or cyber bullying

The second presentation was on Thursday August 13, 2015 when KY Vehicle enforcement Sgt. Keith Justice. Sgt. Justice talked with students about the importance of doing what’s right all of the time, even when no one is watching. To choose positive people to be around. To educate yourself by seeking out people that are successful and pick their brain. Do not hang around people that will bring you down. Don’t worry about what others think or say about you, as long as you believe in yourself, and do the right thing and treat others the way you want to be treated. 

 This is just one of many activities that will be happening to promote the Youth2Youth Partners 4Peace campaign, that will lead up to the week of September 14-18 will be the official Y2Y week.  

 The Youth 2 Youth: Partners 4 Peace, or “Y2Y,” was introduced by Job Corps students to the Job Corps community and Carl D. Perkins Job Corps students and staff are committed be champions of this campaign that started with  Job Corps student leaders, and the National Director’s commitment to ensure the campaign is supported as our young people raise awareness and find solutions to the problems of violence, bullying, and aggression.
