Students from both the Advanced Security and Basic Security classes at Carl D. Perkins Job Corps were back in Louisville, KY, working again – this time at the U2 Concert held June 17 at the Papa John’s Stadium. The last time the security students were in Louisville was to work security for the famed Kentucky Derby.
This time, the students’ work day began with a briefing on details about the concert event. This was the first time that U2 had played in Louisville in 30 years, so event organizers were expecting a huge crowd.
Perkins Job Corps Security students checked guests for unauthorized items, put on wristbands and did safety checks throughout the venue before eventually moving down in the arena to their designated areas.
Security students learn and prepare for these types of events daily by completing classroom curriculum, participating in physical training, going on field trips and hearing from guest speakers. But having the opportunity to work high-profile events such as the U2 concert gives Perkins Job Corps security students valuable real-life, on-the-job training that they just can’t get in a classroom setting alone. Perkins Job Corps students will be working many more events throughout the summer for Tipton Staffing out of Lexington, KY
