On December 11, the students from the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps center accompanied by members of the Floyd County Rescue Squad and rotary Club to the golden Years Nursing Home to help hand our gifts and food to the residents. While there, the students also talked and sand Christmas carols with the residents. The experience is very humbling, said Perkins student Dwayne Clarke. “Things we take for granted on a daily basis, the residents were brought to tears when receiving a small gift with items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste.”
All students came away from this event with an appreciation of what they have and for the power of reaching out to others. While participating in the event certainly brightened the holidays for the residents at the golden Years Nursing Home, it also taught Perkins students valuable life lessons.
