On May 23, the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center was recognized by the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce with a special “Thank You” award during the chamber’s annual banquet. Perkins Job Corps was recognized for its outstanding support and contributions to the Floyd County community. The students and staff of Carl D. Perkins Job Corps volunteer with local businesses, schools and non-profit organizations on community service projects throughout the year. Most recently, the center assisted the Kentucky Special Olympics, Floyd County Senior Olympics, Floyd County Animal Shelter, Judi’s Place for Kids, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jenny Wiley State Park, Floyd County Head Start, Floyd County Chamber, the Disabled Veterans Homeless Shelter Project, Hillbilly Days, Veterans Stand Down event, and the Christian Appalachian Project.
In receiving the award, the center, in turn, thanked the community and the chamber. Center Director Paula Davis stated, “The center could not train and educate the students we serve without the support of the community.” This strong community partnership is one of the reasons the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center is currently ranked 6th in the nation in the Outcome Measurement System.
