Carl D. Perkins Job Corps center has the motto: “Positive Behavior Pays.” that motto was put into action December 14, during the SPO Christmas Store. The Christmas store which has been operation for the past eight years, was implemented as part of a program to reward students for positive behavior and help students take home Christmas presents for family and friends.
Students can earn Santa Bucks from center staff beginning in December for doing positive tasks, such as volunteering for extra duty, helping another student in need, or achieving a positive goal. Students then can spend their Santa Bucks on gifts from the store. Staff members from Perkins Job Corps , community groups and community member donate new or gently used items for the store each year. Staff members also wrap the gifts after the students have chosen what they want. this year the Floyd County Homemakers Club donated 200 items to be used in the store. More than 150 Carl D. Perkins students shopped at the store, taking home more than 400 gifts.
Perkins would like to thank all who donated gifts, wrapping paper, tape, and their time to assist with the store.
