Carl D. Perkins Job Corps assist with Easter Egg Hunt & Rolls out “Y2Y” to Community

Students from the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps assisted with the City of Prestonsburg Easter Egg hunt on Sunday March 20, 2016. Students and Centers BCL Jimmie Wilson assisted with hiding eggs, roping off areas for the hunt, assisted with parking and directing guest to the appropriate age hunting areas. Students also rolled out the Job Corps Program National Anti-violence campaign Youth2Youth (Y2Y) Partners4Peace program to the community. In the spring of 2015, Job Corps students decided to organize and take action around the issue of preventing youth violence in the United States. Youth 2 Youth: Partners 4 Peace, or “Y2Y,” is a violence-prevention initiative created by and led by Job Corps students nationwide. What are students doing to prevent violence on their campuses and in their communities? They are talking about violence and aggression. They are learning about how their peers have been affected by youth violence. They are empowering one another to make a difference. And, most importantly, they are suggesting solutions. Job Corps is committed to being a safe and secure environment for young people to receive education and hands-on career training.

During the day, BCl had informational table set up to educate the community on Y2Y program as well as the Job Corps program. Community members also had the opportunity to sign Pledge Cards for the Y2Y program, the Mayor and the Easter Bunny were among the first to sign. Several of the Police officers signed cards and by the end of the event over 150 community members had signed pledge cards in support of the y2Y program. The Carl D. Perkins will be displaying their community support on a designated community support board at the center. The Y2Y student ambassadors and staff sponsor Jimmie Wilson are already planning other events with the support of the community.
