Students from the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps partnered with the Rotary Club on the groups’ Christmas project for the residents of a local nursing home. Perkins students assisted the Rotary Club of Floyd County on two days recently, sorting clothes, filling gift bags and wrapping presents. the gifts will be given to residents during a Christmas party sponsored by the Rotary.
The project gave students the satisfaction of helping others in need, but it provided even more. “This was one of those teachable moments for the students, ” said Perkins Job Corps business Community Liaison Jimmie Slone, a member of the Rotary. In addition to helping others, students learned about the history and mission of Rotary. Rotary is made up of friends and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting changes in their communities and around the world.
