Carl D. Perkins Security & Protective Services Advanced Training (AT) class spent the day training, but not in their classroom. Students spent the day at Copperhead Shooting Range in Prestonsburg, KY learning parts of the firearms, proper loading and unloading, and an In-depth safety course before heading to the shooting range to practice. Students are required to complete the basic Security & Protective Services class before being eligible for the advanced class. Perkins is the only Job Corps center in the nation with an Advanced Training class in Security & Protective Services. Students from other Job Corps centers that have completed the basic Security class are eligible to apply for the Perkins AT program.
Perkins AT program offers more advanced certifications such as Specialized Use of Force: Control and Restraint (C&R) Techniques , Emergency Response Belt, Police Expandable Baton, Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray ,Less Lethal 12 GA Shotgun, Edged Weapon Spontaneous Response, Street/Jail Combative Assailant Response, Advanced TASER M26C Operations , Police Combat Tactics (CT). there will be a wide variety of instruction, with classwork, field trips to, special guest that will demonstrate various activities in the security field.
