On Sept 19, Carl D. Perkins held its Student Government Association (SGA) elections. New SGA officers are: President Brandon McGuire; Vice President Josh Kisiel; Secretary David Oswalt; Treasurer Chris Hartman; Committee Chairperson Josiah McIntosh; and Sergeant-At-Arms Devontae Lewis.Pre-election events took place weeks before the actual election. Students were given the opportunity to come up with their own campaign slogans and display posters throughout the center. They also had several opportunities to talk with students and share their ideas of how they would represent them and work for changes that the student body felt was needed to make the center even better.
Students used an actual electronic voting machine, thanks to the Floyd County Courthouse and County Court Clerk Chris Waugh. Students where able to cast their vote for their favorite candidate during their lunch hour.
This is a valuable learning experience for the student body. Some students stated this was the first time they had ever voted and did not know how to use the voting machine. This enables students to be knowledgeable of the voting process, and to understand the importance of voting.
