On Wednesday, April 22, 2020 our Nation and Perkins Job Corps students celebrated it’s 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. This week is also National Volunteer Week April 19-25. Celebrations were a little different this year being held remotely in the comfort of our students “Healthy at Home” orders but those circumstances put no lack in activities. From sporting Green attire, to recycling, to educating others, to posting photos with hashtags #Earthday2020 and #Team Perkins our staff and students continued their support of these valued programs. One office administration student Emma Helman currently working on her Associates degree, took her nieces and nephews to Dykeman Pond, a local park in her community to feed the ducks and educate them on the importance of protecting their environment. Austin Chavez, a facility maintenance and Welding trainee shared how his Amazon employer does their part in protecting the environment by recycling cardboard. Facility Maintenance trainee Gabrielle Younce posted a picture of herself proudly proclaiming “One Earth, One Love.” Our Business Community Liaison, Tiffany Fannin wore her green Earth Day shirt and went Vegan for a day only eating plant based foods. The Job Corps program believes it is pivotal to teach the importance of responsible citizenship and giving back to communities through service. We model, mentor and monitor professional behaviors to ensure the successes of our youth and the future of our Economies. We look forward to the many more opportunities to expand our students’ horizons.
