Attend apprenticeship open house event
Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Construction students learned about apprenticeships during the open house hosted by the Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights held in Ashland, KY on Nov. 15. The council offers a state-of-the-art “earn-while-you-learn” four-year accredited apprenticeship program that means no school loans to pay back! Once completed, graduates earn an associate’s degree in Applied Science from Ivy Tech College. The program includes health and retirement benefits for apprentices as well as family coverage. Apprentices are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, annuity, pension and much more. The council’s Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program is one of the top carpenter apprenticeship programs in the nation.
The Perkins Job Corps construction students talked with current students in the apprenticeship program, toured the facility, and got hands-on experience through a variety of mock set-ups during the Open House event.
This is just one example of many experiences that Perkins Job Corps offers as part of its quality job training. Students experience real world opportunities through job shadowing, internships, field trips and guest speakers.
