The Heritage Inn, formerly the Holiday Inn in Prestonsburg, KY has been a landmark for 30 years. The hotel first began as the Holiday Inn, bringing a new look and a great addition for the local economy, with it being the first major hotel with 122 guest and several banquet rooms and full restraint and bar in the area. The hotel has seen several changes decades later, with this resulting in closing of the hotel a little over a year ago, under the name Heritage Inn.
The closure resulted in rundown condition of the hotel the lack of visitors due to this. The hotel was purchased shortly after closing and is now being ran by Employment Resource Group out of Hazard, Ky. This company also owns several well-know restaurants like Applebee’s and Wendy’s.
The Carl D. Perkins Construction students began an internship with the company on May 27, 2014 helping restore some of the lost features that locals remember as being beautiful! Students have been landscaping, painting benches, gutting rooms, and the most recent is prepping the once busy pool, for a new coat of paint. The students learn valuable on the job training, working in several different areas on the job site.
Thanks to the Construction students, for assisting with this project that will benefit everyone in the community.
