From April 17-24, 190 students from Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center and 22 staff took part in Global Youth Service Day activities. The Perkins’ students joined with other community volunteers in numerous projects in the tri-county area. Projects included helping more than 100 Special Olympics athletes at their regional games in Floyd County, working with Floyd County PRIDE beautification efforts at Yatesville and Paintsville State Parks, and participating in an Arbor Day event with Floyd County Conservation and Tree City USA. Students cooked and served meals at the Pikeville Homeless Shelter, completed facility updates at the Pleasant Home Baptist Church of Prestonsburg and completed HVAC improvements at the Rock House Volunteer Fire Department. PLEASE NOTE: Two pictures are attached. One from Special Olympics volunteers and one from HVAC class at the Rock House Volunteer Fire Department.
