Brunswick Job Corps Student Government Association

Wins First Place for “Bullying Prevention” exhibit at Coastal Empire Fair

The Brunswick Job Corps Student Government entered an exhibit at the Coastal Empire Fair sponsored by the University Of Georgia. Several organizations from the community displayed exhibits.  SGA exhibit won first place.

Sherrick Brown (S.G.A. Vice President) and Makeda Black (SGA Chief Justice) were on hand to receive the first place blue ribbon and a check for $150.00 for their organization.

All S.G.A. executive officers were involved in constructing the display. The group decided to present the display to bring awareness to bullying in schools today. Their goal was to help influence change by helping others to identify the kinds of bullying that exist. In addition, they hoped to enlighten the public on the growing problem of cyber bullying in our schools. The exhibit also gave tips on roles that teachers and students can play in bullying prevention.

The group’s involvement in the project instilled a sense of pride in sharing helpful information in the community. Moreover, the exhibit helped others to understand that bullying occurs in schools, colleges, job corps and all educational sectors. The Brunswick Job Corps S.G.A. also was successful in getting students and staff on their center to wear the color orange for “Unity Day” on October 12th to highlight their bullying prevention campaign.
