About 160 students from Box Elder Job Corps in Nemo were helping out around the Black Hills Tuesday. That contingent included around 50 students here in Rapid City where they were cleaning up around Dinosaur Park Tuesday morning.
The project was in observance of Earth Day. Job Corps officials say one of the key elements of their program is community service.
Jeff Hayward says, “We have an emphasis on green energy and conservation and we try to instill that in all of our students. So this day is about trying to give back to our communities and have our students understand the importance and what our impact can be and hopefully serve our community in the process.”
Justin Zeman says, “Hopefully, we’ll get it pretty straightened up, hopefully get more than last year. I’m not sure how much they did last year, but hopefully, we’ll get it, even more this year.”
In addition to this crew working in Rapid City Job Corps students were also helping out today in Sturgis, Deadwood, Spearfish, and Nemo.
